El\u00a0Fondo de Naciones Unidas para la Infancia (UNICEF)<\/b>\u00a0denunci\u00f3 este mi\u00e9rcoles que m\u00e1s de\u00a02,2 millones de ni\u00f1as han sido privadas de acceso a la educaci\u00f3n<\/b>\u00a0durante los \u00faltimos cuatro a\u00f1os de\u00a0r\u00e9gimen talib\u00e1n<\/b>\u00a0en\u00a0Afganist\u00e1n<\/b>, un pa\u00eds donde las menores est\u00e1n siendo cada vez m\u00e1s excluidas de este \u00e1mbito.<\/p>\n

\u201cYa han pasado cuatro a\u00f1os desde que se les prohibi\u00f3 a las adolescentes afganas seguir yendo a la escuela m\u00e1s all\u00e1 del sexto grado<\/b>\u201c, record\u00f3 en un comunicado la directora ejecutiva de UNICEF,\u00a0Catherine Russell<\/b>. Advirti\u00f3, adem\u00e1s, que la exclusi\u00f3n se ha profundizado tras el devastador terremoto del mes pasado, que dej\u00f3 m\u00e1s de\u00a02.200 muertos<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Russell alert\u00f3 que m\u00e1s ni\u00f1as se ver\u00e1n afectadas a medida que miles de afganos regresan al pa\u00eds tras ser deportados de naciones vecinas. En este sentido, subray\u00f3 que estas menores \u201cdesempe\u00f1an un papel fundamental\u201d, especialmente como \u201ctrabajadoras sociales y sanitarias\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cSon esenciales en los esfuerzos de respuesta humanitaria, especialmente en una sociedad donde la estricta segregaci\u00f3n de g\u00e9nero limita la capacidad de los trabajadores hombres para atender las necesidades de mujeres y familias. Para mantener estas profesiones, y tantas otras, es imprescindible que las ni\u00f1as reciban educaci\u00f3n\u201d<\/b>, a\u00f1adi\u00f3.<\/p>\n

La responsable de UNICEF lament\u00f3 adem\u00e1s que, mientras millones de ni\u00f1os en el mundo vuelven a clases con el inicio del curso, las\u00a0ni\u00f1as en Afganist\u00e1n \u201ccarecen de este derecho fundamental\u201d.<\/b>\u00a0\u201cEs una de las injusticias m\u00e1s graves de nuestro tiempo\u201d<\/b>, enfatiz\u00f3.<\/p>\n

Asimismo, alert\u00f3 de que esta prohibici\u00f3n constituye una amenaza profunda para la estabilidad y el progreso a largo plazo del pa\u00eds. A su juicio,\u00a0\u201cninguna naci\u00f3n puede prosperar cuando se deja atr\u00e1s a la mitad de su poblaci\u00f3n. Si Afganist\u00e1n quiere avanzar, necesita la plena participaci\u00f3n de mujeres y hombres para impulsar una fuerza laboral m\u00e1s resiliente, promover el desarrollo econ\u00f3mico y responder a las necesidades de una naci\u00f3n en crecimiento\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n

Russell tambi\u00e9n denunci\u00f3 una \u201cp\u00e9rdida\u201d mucho mayor para las ni\u00f1as: \u201cSe les est\u00e1 privando del contacto social, del crecimiento personal, de la oportunidad de forjar su futuro y de alcanzar su potencial (…)\u00a0Me preocupa especialmente la situaci\u00f3n de millones de ni\u00f1as confinadas en sus hogares y el impacto de ese aislamiento\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n

De acuerdo con UNICEF, esta exclusi\u00f3n ha derivado en un aumento de los problemas de salud mental, matrimonios precoces y altas tasas de natalidad, fen\u00f3menos que \u201cpodr\u00edan haberse evitado\u201d.<\/p>\n

Por ello, la organizaci\u00f3n hizo un llamado directo a las autoridades talibanes a levantar la prohibici\u00f3n, a la que calific\u00f3 como \u201cdevastadora\u201d, y permitir que las ni\u00f1as vuelvan a las aulas.<\/p>\n
