Es el escudo que protege nuestro planeta del viento solar, la corriente de part\u00edculas cargadas que libera el Sol.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bbc-19j92fr ebmt73l0\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p class=\"bbc-hhl7in e17g058b0\" dir=\"ltr\">Ahora, despu\u00e9s de a\u00f1os de buscarlo, finalmente se logr\u00f3 ubicar al tercer campo: el ambipolar.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bbc-19j92fr ebmt73l0\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p class=\"bbc-hhl7in e17g058b0\" dir=\"ltr\">Su funci\u00f3n es contrarrestar la gravedad y expulsar part\u00edculas al espacio y, afirman los cient\u00edficos, es tan fundamental como los campos gravitacional y magn\u00e9tico.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bbc-19j92fr ebmt73l0\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<h2 id=\"Hip\u00f3tesis-antigua\" class=\"bbc-1f03ibc eglt09e0\" tabindex=\"-1\">Hip\u00f3tesis antigua<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bbc-19j92fr ebmt73l0\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p class=\"bbc-hhl7in e17g058b0\" dir=\"ltr\">La hip\u00f3tesis de la existencia de un campo el\u00e9ctrico ambipolar se formul\u00f3 por primera vez hace m\u00e1s de 60 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bbc-19j92fr ebmt73l0\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p class=\"bbc-hhl7in e17g058b0\" dir=\"ltr\">Se cre\u00eda que este campo impulsaba el escape de la atm\u00f3sfera de nuestro planeta hacia el espacio exterior por encima de los polos norte y sur de la Tierra.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bbc-19j92fr ebmt73l0\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p class=\"bbc-hhl7in e17g058b0\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cCada vez que una nave espacial sobrevolaba los polos de la Tierra,\u00a0<b>se sent\u00eda este viento supers\u00f3nico de part\u00edculas, llamado viento polar, que fluye hacia el espacio\u201d,\u00a0<\/b>explica Glyn Collinson, investigador principal de la misi\u00f3n del cohete Endurance del Centro de Vuelos Espaciales Goddard de la NASA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bbc-19j92fr ebmt73l0\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p class=\"bbc-hhl7in e17g058b0\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201c(Se pensaba que) deb\u00eda haber alguna fuerza invisible acechando all\u00ed, responsable de esta salida.
